Email from Castle Combe
THANK YOU - to all involved in the MiniWorld Action Day 2009
A big thanks from us all at the Castle Combe Action Day Team. We were expecting a good day but Saturday exceeded all our expectations with a total of 106 clubs displaying cars, 50 traders attending, a large Autojumble and a fantastic 20 or so number of Mini Boot Sale sellers.
Some sessions on the circuit sold out but there was generally room for everyone who wanted to get on track.
Several drivers turned up in 1959 cars and we asked them to lead the Giant Cruise at lunchtime, regretfully we had to shorten this due circuit delays but we managed a record breaking 251 cars on track.
The session for 50p was well received and we donated the money raised to the Mighty Mini Racers who took a staggering total of a little over £2,300 on the day. This will be split between Listening Post, a local based counselling charity and GAZZ who help under privileged children.
As ever Bill Richards was the first car on the track at 09.00 and the last on track off the circuit at 17.00 and in the meantime raised over £600 which will be used to purchase equipment at a special needs school close to his home in Ashford in Kent. So together an amazing £3,000 was raised by the generosity of our visitors.
The Mini World Team were kept busy all day. ‘Club Stand of the Show’ went to the West Country Minis the ‘Car of the Show’ as judged by Mini World Magazine was awarded to Claudio Viverios 400 bhp Z Cars Honda engined saloon.
Many traders reported record trading levels with enthusiasts delighted at the size of the Autojumble and Mini Boot Sale area where they were able to find that special part. Two visitors all the way from Thailand were able to locate a set of wheels which they had been searching for many years, so will be returning to Thailand with considerable excess baggage but big smiles.
Whilst it is going to be a difficult act to follow plans will now begin to make the 2010 Mini World Action Day even bigger, better and more enjoyable so put it in your diary now for Saturday 25th September to ensure your part of this great event.
2010 is the Diamond Jubilee Year of Castle Combe Circuit and the Mini World Action Day is sure to be a special event in a memorable year.
Thanks again for all your support and we look forward to welcoming you back in 12 months time.
From the Castle Combe Action Day Team
