We're with Orange and have a livebox (router thingy). It's pretty neat as my desktop pc, 2 laptops and the kids Nintendo Wii are all wirelessley connected to it. Their Xbox 360 is plugged into it as an Xbox wireless adapter is too expensive.
Anyway as part of the deal we get a second phone line that's connected to the livebox. So that way all calls are free (except for 01 numbers etc) and our land line is free after 6pm.
That was until Friday night when our second line went dead.
We rang Orange yesterday and got through to an Asian woman (no surprises) and she promised that a technician would call us back between 5 and 6pm last night. Nobody rang.
So today I rang again and after what seemed like forever trying to get through, I finally got a voice on the other end and after much fiddling about it was decided that we need a new Livebox. I then got put through to someone else (after being put on hold) and she asked me to try this and that and she also asked if we'd had any thunder storms lately.
Well we'd had a few claps of lightening and the odd flash, but nothing major.
So I was then put on hold again and this time passed on to what sounded like a grumpy cockney (so I'd obviously been transferred from the far East to Eastenders?).
He didn't fill me with much confidence at all and I could hardly hear a word he said due to the lousy connection and his thick accent (I thought mine was bad enough).
I did mention about their failiure to ring me back and the delay in me getting a replacement livebox and so I asked if I'd be entitled to any rebate.
Well none of them would commit to a rebate either way and I'm really not looking forward to having to telephone them again to reinstall our 2nd line after the new livebox arrives.
Nor am I looking forward to having to change the WEP wireless security numbers on our computers and games machines.
Oh and we pay £35.00 a month for this package and any calls made are extra (unless we use the 2nd line, or the land line after 6pm).
So I guess I'll have to disconnect it next time there's so much as a hint of a storm. Or switch broadband providers instead, as I'm sure there's a better service than this elsewhere?
