AdTrader Scammers

Just a warning to anyone placing a paid for advert on AdTrader (freeads) (Although it could be for any paid for advert)

I put the pups on there on wednesday night and paid by card. Had a call today from someone claiming to be from them, Told me that the payment had been declined as they had been having problems with thier servers, and asked for card details again. I smelt a rat straight away as I had checked already and the advert was online, Told them I didnt have my wallet on me and can I have thier phone number and I will call them back, Had the reply of ***** off and they hung up Dialled 1471 but number was witheld

had a similar thing couple of yrs back selling a car + kept the guy on phone for over an hr + got same reply after i had wound him up

Well surely if the number was withheld, can't BT or whoever trace it?

I'm sure they could if you reported it to the Police. I mean you just know someone else is going to get ripped off because their not as clued up?

I think the adverts on adtrader go through a vetting system, i.e. they don't know your number and vice versa but check in case they hold records of calls.

I got in touch with adtrader and they said they are aware of the scam, Pity they dont post something up about it on thier homepage

In their defence, if they hint at the fact you may get called due to billing issues then if they really do need to phone you about billing issues it will take them significantly longer to get you to actually pay properly after its been mucked up once...

Then again, if it all has gone through properly surely they could add something to the confirmation email...
