Dear south wales mini
I am writing to you to appeal for your help in a forthcoming charity event at Easter.
I am taking part in an event called the Morocco/Prague Hitch, organised by the charity Link Community Development (LCD). The aim of the event is to reach Morocco/Prague entirely for free, by hitching rides with lorries and other forms of transport. Whilst this sounds like a highly ambitious plan, LCD have numerous Health & Safety procedures in place and do everything they can to minimise all risks associated with the event. Approximately 1,000 Hitchers take part each year, and in the 18 years the event has been running no serious incidents have occurred.
LCD’s aim is to provide quality sustainable education to children in sub-Saharan Africa, thus fulfilling their basic human right of access to education and giving them the opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty into which they were born. The Hitch is LCD’s largest fundraising event and last year raised £455,000 for LCD; this money is absolutely crucial to LCD and allows them to finance and run education programmes in Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa and Uganda. For more information about LCD’s work, please visit www.lcd.org.uk or email hitch@lcd.org.uk.
The Hitch will undoubtedly be an enriching and unforgettable experience from a personal point of view, but more importantly it is an opportunity to raise a significant amount of money for this very worthwhile charity. My purpose of writing is to enquire if you would be willing to support this event, either by sponsoring me to take part or by donating something which I could raffle or auction off to raise additional funds for LCD.
I appreciate that in the current economic climate it is not easy to support such events but I would be delighted if you were to assist me in some way. The Hitch attracts significant levels of media interest every year and I would be very happy to wear your company merchandise or display your logo while taking part, thus giving you some public exposure during the event. Above all, however, this is an opportunity to support a very worthy charity and make a real difference to the education children receive in sub-Saharan Africa.
I look forward to your response and really hope you are able to support this cause.
You can donate by visiting my facebook page or going to my just give webpage.
