for years i been fed up of the crap demisting of the mini heater so today i started playing around with some parts to create my own hopefully more powerful and smaller unit. first up a honda civic heater fan then a secondary heat exchanger body from a baxi combi boiler quick trial fit proper brackets to be made tomorrow then a box to house this which will be bolted over the hole then its a case of suitable ducting and seeing if it actually works. as you can see i get bored easily lol

i tried the fan earlier and it pumps out a huge amount of air, but weather i can get it thru the matrix and up to the screen is another matter

Looking good! I had an idea to try and get more air up to the screen... don't use the sort of tubing they have used... must cut the airflow in half.....
Do you think you could fit a different motor and fan into the existing body? (we have a spare here and I was going to add draft excluder and paint it up all nice before fitting, but if we know of a different motor/fan assembly that will fit then I may have a pop at that! ;D )

Ensuring the plastic heater pipes and vent nozzles are taped up (air can escape from the gaps) helps with the screen demisting.

Ensuring the plastic heater pipes and vent nozzles are taped up (air can escape from the gaps) helps with the screen demisting. one of the first things i did when i bought my mini and it does help. the main problem is the ducting is to small (hence the mpi/spi having larger ones) and also the heater design where the outlet pipes are in the corners which is not optimum for air flow. a few years ago i played around with forcing air up the ducting and came up with this with the flap removed i used some alloy sheet to direct air up them which worked well but then you lost the ability to heat the cabin. on the heater front today i did abit more playing (no pics sadly) its a well known fact that with radiators you get better cooling with air being pulled thru the radiator so now my heater pulls air thru the matrix rather than blow like the standard item, plus it has reduced the overall size greatly

Sounds a good idea! and should umph the airflow up a fair bit as well!

Good plan dude, I'm liking the creativeness! Where are you mounting the matrix?
