I found a 1991 1.0 litre Mk3 Polo coupe in helios blue about 14 months ago which had been parked on a guy's driveway since 2004 and didn't look too bad. Anyway at the time I told him I was interested. He couldn't sort it out as he had lost the keys and the logbook. He eventually found the logbook but the keys are still missing, so I purchased a full used lockset from someone on the club polo forum and they arrived on Saturday. I had to go down there on Sunday and had to pick the door locks to get in (I happened to have a set of Goso lock picks in the house...unused may I add ). So I changed the door locks/handles then had to remove the steering lock. I found a thread on the vwvortex forum which explained how and where to drill the lock barrel to enable the removal of the barrel. I drilled it out in place after removing the steering column shrouds and hit the sweet spot first time and changed out the barrel. I went to pick it up this evening and after a friend let me down with a trailer, I had to borrow his solo tow a-frame thingy, and let me tell you I wasn't keen on using it as I had never used one before and it just doesn't seem right. Well, what a weird experience seeing a car that close steering around corners with no driver at the wheel. Just brilliant, I will probably get myself one. It is now tucked up in the garage awaiting a clean, fresh fuel and a new battery before I see what she needs for the MOT. Pics to follow tomorrow.

Already ordered a debadged grille, some clear indicators, maybe rear light tints, keep it on wide 13's and drop it about 60mm front and 40mm rear for the euro look. Maybe this sort of look.

Plans sound good! People always try to go way too complicated with old VWs..... slap them on their arse, nice rims, de-badge and your done! ;D

Well, been up the garage for most of the day today. Not the best day progress wise. Put a new battery on it (£29), £10 worth of fuel. No start. Pooo. No fuel getting through, car started with brake cleaner down the carb, but still no start on petrol. Checked out the lift pump in the tank, not running. Removed from tank and tapped a few times, now pumping. Still no fuel to the carb (correction, there is but it's back up the return line.) Found out there was a second pump under the car which is seized and knackered. Rung Sinclairs and got quoted £182 WTF are they on!!!!! Decided to remove the pump, filters and carriage from under the car, clean it up and give it a coat of paint in anticipation of the new pump and 2 new filters which will be going on as soon as I get them. Filter 1 £7.00 (Phoenix motor factors ) and filter accumulator thingy (£13 Sinclair VW/Audi) Also quoted £40 for new discs, pads and shoes (trade) so they are still to come. I have managed to source a used fuel pump on ClubPolo for £15 posted. Result. No chance to clean the car and only 2 piccys. Front Side

Been up the garage today, finished rebuilding the fuel pump carrier with used pump, new fuel accumulator/filter and new fuel filter with stainless nuts and silver hammerite. Refitted it all to the car and refreshed all the jubilee clips throughout right up to the Spi injector (carb thingy). Primed the lines and reconnected them and the car started first time. Very happy. It runs a little rough off idle but will rev out ok, so I will give it a full service with plugs leads rotor etc and change the brakes then it'll be MOT time. Cant wait. Very happy for today tho.

Been down my m8's garage this week cos he has a 2 poster lift, changed the front discs and pads, stripped the rears and found 2 handbrake cables frayed and 2 wheel cylinders screwed. Pooo. So I replaced everything bar the backplates and drums at the back then used a mity-vac to suck clean fluid right through the system and bled it all. Brakes are brilliant now. At least thats one mot job which should be ok. Just to change out the rear lights for the late model ones and check all the stupid stuff like lights and horn etc then MOT next week.

Coedy, I have decided to build my own bike from the ground up the the polo will just be used as a daily so will probably only stick a set of alloys on it. I have purchased a 2002 Triumph daytona 955i frame and single side swingarm with wheel etc, a complete rear end seat frame, undertray, underseat pipes, plastics etc off a 675 street triple and a complete upside down fork front end from a suzuki hayabusa. So I will have my hands full for a while. New project yahoo. Just need to sell the mini and mini stuff to clear a space in the garage and I can make a start.
