i can move the right hand pipe 360 degres so theres gotta be a join or its knackered cant really see much as has been heat wrapped.

Sorry correct that, think it would do this as seems really lose, and can pull the bottom down ( on the bend ), shouldnt this be a one piece pipe ?? have looed on all sites and havent seen one with a joint on it

Well you should have a bracket there at least, mine is missing it's original type bracket because I'm using the one that came with my fantastic Maniflow exhaust system instead.
Either way your Minis downpipe should be attached to the gearbox as seen in my piccies. If it's not then the engine movement can loosen the manifold joints and fracture the downpipes.
The reason I took those pictures is because my original bracket went AWOL and after asking for advice I was told to just use the Manilflow bracket instead.
I got a new securing bolt from Somerford Minis and it went in a treat (I did worry that the threads may have gone). They also sold the standard type exhaust brackets too, but mine is okay as it is.

the most common place for the lcb to break is at the welded joint at the 2 into 1. As taffy says you should have a bracket to the diff housing or if it's a later injection model a ball and socket joint connected to the Y piece.

That's news to me!!!! May have to get one of those once I work out what's happening with my Manifold...
