oil burning problem when on long runs

the problem is ive got 10w 40 in her at the mo and on the way back from the run last sunday the oil pressure dropped and i stopped to check oil and she was empty i checked with my mechanic and he said that there are no leaks on the engine but the only way the engine couldve got out is out the exhaust

soo does any1 now what the problem is and how severe it is please

10w40 = far too thin.

30w40 Mineral oil MAY be ok.
But get some 20w50 Mineral Oil if you definitely want to have no problems what so ever. ;D ;D ;D

(Halfords do one cheap in a metal tin with a Mini on the front which is a good one or so I hear, that's what I am getting next oil change)

yep 20w50 only in a mini,
the problem of people using 10w40 started when rover changed to the k series engine and some numpty when writing the mini owners manual just assumed the mini would have the same oil

Thanks every1 im thinking of getting Valvoline 20w50 Racing oil suppose to be the best

And its only £27.89 for 5 litres and a £5ver for 1 litre

Just make sure its not synthetic. Mineral is king.
