i'd change it as keats has said, from memory i'm sure you can buy a anti squeal liquid for the water pumps which lubricates all the moving parts to prolong the life if decide to not change

May as well just change it. Water pump failure = unsexy.

Was there any noise or high temperature before tightening? As sid before if in doubt change, I had a water pump fail on me on the way to Castle combe mini show and it gave in all together on the severn bridge My last mini started squecking though, and a dose of anti freeze seemed to fix it

HHmm I think anti freeze might be the answer, have drained the bloody cooling system so many times in the last week. as in refitted engine steady propelly, and changed all the thermostat gaskets tonight. will give it a shot with anti freeze tomorrow , how much does the car actualy need antifreeze wise

The belt may be a little too tight. Needs about 3/4 inch of play between the alternator and bottom pulley. With our frosty weather i'd go for at least 30% antifreeze to be on the safe side.

cheers for all the input, what antifreeze is the best & how much does the cooling system hold in total ? so to get the ratio right

I use the all seasons antifreeze, keep it in all year. The capacity is roughly 6 pints for the cooling system.
