Been trying to find out the right oil to use in my 1998 Cooper. Manual says 10W 30 (which halfrauds don't sell), and Miniworld servicing guide says 10W 30 or 10W 40 for newer road cars but to change to 20w 50 or 60 after 10k miles.
I've bought 5W/40 fully synthetic from Halfrauds after choosing it from the little guide they have as they claim this is the recommended oil.
Will this oil do the trick or would I be better off with something else?
Cheers Alex

Synthetic kills gearboxes. What mileage is the car? I always recommend 20w50 Mineral engine oil... It's all I have ever used and It's never done any harm Halfords sell a 20w50 'classic oil' in a tin with a mini on the front. That is your best bet

car is on 59,000. I guess I'll be off down to Halfords to get a tin of 20w 50 badboy then!

Typical of Halfords and they need shooting for recommending synthetic oil for the Mini with it's 60 year old designed A'series engine and combined gearbox which has a blender effect on the oil before it reaches the engine.
So yes, 20W/50 is the one you want.

Dont put any thing in that is synthetic. Mineral based 20w50 is best. I use comma premium 20w50, Seems a good oil plus a I get it cheap from work.

I use Morris's Magnol 20/50 multigrade in my 42 year old motor. It's a steal at £6 a gallon. Just change the oil and filter regularly.
