hey guys.starter motor been sticking all the time and fed up of freeing it.noticed now that the shaft is warpedgotta buy another.question is:do i have to do any modifications to put a pre engaged starter motor on or is the inertia one just as good?

I take it you have an Inertia type in at the moment.. How old is the engine and have you got a diaphragm or verto clutch fitted. Inertia starters are for diaphragm clutches and Pre- Ehgaged starters need to be used with verto type clutches. Unless the flywheel starter ring has been changed on the verto type clutch an Inertia type starter can't / should'nt be used.

thanks dai.not sure what clutch i have as i dont have a clue to the age of the engine.know its outta a mg metro and thats about it.

If it's from a MG Metro I'm pretty sure it would be a verto clutch So it should need a Pre-Engaged. I think... Best wait for someone to give that assumption the all clear though!

it doesnt look like a pre engaged one tho.i thought mg metros were pre engaged too

I would say MG Metro's have pre-engaged starters and all Mini models got those starters from October 1985.
