There is a few sneeky viruses out at the moment, the servers in work have been slowed up all week. Try deleting browser history, etc, etc, reboot run a virus scan, defrag and disk clean up and then reboot. That was the advice from IT for home users.

Good point mark. you may have some malware or something that the forum is trying to defend itself against...

Sodding computers, mine had a 'Worm Waledac' virus just prior to it packing in. So after spending days sorting that out, it was all for nothing.
Then Firefox on my wife's laptop started to behave similarly odd after unsubscribing with a holiday home firm in Tenby (i.e. Frank B. Mason's) via an e-mail we'd been sent.
What annoys me is ages ago we both used to get the odd e-mail from them, so we unsubscribed.
Then recently we both received e-mails stating that after a computer error we were being sent holiday home information again and we should unsubscribe if we no longer wish to receive the e-mails.
Naturally we did just that and soon after I ended up with that virus and like I said, Firefox isn't working quite the same on my wife's laptop although after doing all the same antii-virus and anti-malware checks nothing bad has shown up.
Well, apart from the fact I downloaded Ad-Adaware and after a full scan it found 2 trojan horses that 'AVG Free 9.0' failed to pick up.
I guess we could have been duped by some unfriendly person, or Frank B Mason is unknowingly sending eveyone viruses? Either way the e-mail's have stopped, even though Marie received more because she didn't unsubscribe until much later.
So I've uninstalled Firefox for the moment and I'm in the middle of running more scans.
As for Firefox, what I noticed is the cursor flashes on any part of the home page, where as it didn't before. Plus when checking the cookies I'm unable to fully scroll down or up the page, where as I was able to before (and still can on my daughters laptop).
So I hope to get it sorted and if anyone knows what's going on, then I'd be pleased for the advice. Otherwise I'll get out the start up discs and format the lot.

I thought Firefox was supposed to be safe and I've been using it for a while now.
If I don't get any joy I might consider the change.
We've got Safari installed though and that's clever, if a bit confusing.

Firefox is safe, in comparison to IE 6 and some older browsers, There all pretty similar now though. If your looking for a good anti-virus, dont bother paying for it, download Microsoft Security Essentials, its free, and very good.
braceuself, Try cleaning your Browser cache, Cookies, etc, that should fix the problem.

AVG 9 is free and I used to use Avast (also free) and that was very good and seemed to find everything.

I thought Firefox was supposed to be safe and I've been using it for a while now. nothing is truly safe but firefox is safer than IE and chrome is safer than firefox

Well I did all that Mark D advised above and so far so good. This quick scanning software website is a pretty good way of ensuring your vulnerable add-on software (like Java) is up to date: - secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online

Excellent,
The people in IT have been saying there is an increase in viruses, worms, etc that do not do damage just annoying stuff, like slow up things, stop access, etc, etc, they sneek in as they don't go further than the browser (I really lost what they were on about after this), they advised cleaning up regularly or use private or cloak browsing loads of the browsers have them built in.
;D

Excellent, The people in IT have been saying there is an increase in viruses, worms, etc that do not do damage just annoying stuff reminds me - years ago there where a load of macro viruses which affected Microsoft office there was one really annoying one which just turned all text white, so people would open a document and all they would see is a white page. the solution was easy just select all and put it back to black. it was annoying at the time but pretty funny looking back
