so i have my doors and wing panels painted in like a houe paint ( thanks to the last owner....again)
and whent he car comes back from its welding and passes its MOT ...hopefully. i wanted to maybe respray the doors and wing panels...
i heard its cheaper to do it yourself .. which id love to do so what are the steps to take? like removing the paint and then primer what kind or colour? and then the paint itsself and then the gloss?
how its it done and how long would it take ?
where would i get the aerosols from ?
and is my mini mayfair colour a Flame Red (89) as theres two kinds of flame red when i looked in halfrauds...
it seems expensive in there so is there somewhere who can mix the paint in to spray cans cheaper?roughly what price?
sorry for all the questions.. ive seen a few of you have done your cars yourself so was hoping someone could help!

Start with your primer, red oxide would be best as your paint red anyway. Add two or three coats and then use wet and dry paper, 600, 800 and 1200 grit. To find the right paint code try here www.minicolours.co.ukHalfords to be fair have an average price on aerosol sprays, the pink on Gerty is £19.00 a tin (400ml) and I used 5 in total!!! If you are doing it yourself take your time and keep flattening it paint to make her really smooth

Wet and Dry is very fine sandpaper you can use with water, the finer the grit the smoother the paintwork gets. To remove old paint you can use very rough sandpaper, something like 60 grit or a paint stripper like Nitromorse. All these items can be found in your beloved Halfords

it isnt gloss its just liek a plain matt emulsion paint its pretty much flaking off so i doubt itll be that hard to take off at all.

I remember trying to paint my first car, a 1275GT and not knowing about how paint do and don't mix. As I was spraying on the primer over the top of the last top coat the whole lot ran off the panel into a puddle on the floor. Lesson learnt

Look in the cleaning section for Stripping Disc. These work well. VERY well.

is it ok to be Respraying my car at this time of year? and roughly how long do you think it would take to do one door? as i just want to try it out on one door before doing the other door and wing panels? i probably sounds illy but im new to this i think the paint thats on there at the moment will come off easy when being sandpapered as its basially just flaking off. so i doubt that will take long to get that off? and when you say sand paper the paint when applying it ? why does that need to be done? Thanks guys
