Lotus developed a system for this a few years ago... I'll try n dig something up.

Seem to recall they had choices of V8s and V12s

edit 2 - should've read the article closer, it says Lotus!

edit 3 - on the obscenities point I think it would be hilarious, a certain word beginning with b relating to the family jewels would be brilliant to make the sound of a flat 4 boxer like subaru engines
