car seems to be running rather hot,, when i opened the rad cap the water is orange and seems to have a layer of gunk on the top, not think but kinda foamy is this anything to worry about?
checked the dipstick and theres no water in the oil, its not loosing water and the oil cap is clean so im guesing this isnt that the head is gone?
any ideas?

That can sometimes be an early sign of the head gasket going Jamie, so keep checking the oil and water level. You could try dropping the water out of the rad and refilling with clean water/antifreeze mix (not a bad plan with the winter coming up!) if you dont like what you see in the rad.

Would an airlock in the system do that? if its running hotter than usual it could have an air lock or something which means the water pump is just foaming up the water rather than pushing it about?

oh dear this doesnt sound great! will keep an eye on things and see how it goes, il take the bottom hose off and drain the rad and run fresh water through until the rad is flushed and go from there.
thanks all

Personally, I'd use 30% antifreeze when you refill the radiator. Our winters are getting colder. The 1 or 2 nights hard frost don't do too much damage, it's the longer penetrating freezing conditions that cause the most mayhem.
