I need some moral support I have just found out that my replacement engine, that some of you may know, is not a 1275 as it is supposed to be, but in fact a 998cc. I wouldnt mind, but now im gutted that I cant officially call my mini a Cooper, can I?? Argh, the guy who replaced the engine is a total '@#?! and I dont have any proof of the swap. How do I go about dealing with this discovery? Let the insurance company know Ive been conned and have been an idiot trusting this bleep, and my mini is no longer a 1275 but in fact a 998. Am already so annoyed that my Cooper has been stripped of it's identity - and I can no longer relate enough to my little car coz of this relevation - that I am at a loss of what to do. The insurance companys are normally contacted when you modifiy - not 'date' your car due to owner ignorance and stupidity And I tried to get to Castle Combe but had problems with the mini and only made it 10 miles down the road before having to give up n turn home. Not my week, so it seems. Thanks for reading my rant! I needed to tell people that would understand my mistake in believing someone who is clearly NOT my friend. Thanks. Kaz

if it says cooper on the log book then its a cooper ;D
its just a name really the main thing is its your mini and you love it.
sorry to hear you have been screwed over, what happened to the old engine? you will have to tell your insurance. if you paid this bloke then go and speak to CAB and see what they say. if theres any thing i can do to help let me know

As Lawson said, The log book decides if it is a cooper or not.
I would go to the citizen advice bureau and have a word because I am guessing there would be quite a difference in a 998 engine price and 1275 engine price..
Your insurance may go down as its a smaller engine?

But do I say the truth to insurance?? Or should I be selective with the truth? Surely they will need evidence of a transaction? Im sure I have an invoice somewhere - but not one that has a great amount of detail or use. Kaz

sorry to hear about your engine...not too sure if this helps but when byron tried to alter the engine size with the dvla they asked for proof of the engine size...they said a letter from a garage or poss mot place would do, just as long as its someone who knows about them....i`d guess that it would do for insurance too?

Your insurance may go down as its a smaller engine? you'd think so but it has been know for insurance to go up because its modified (ie not as it was built) which is crazy if you ask me but insurers seem to like to get every posible penny
