all depends on what you want the welder for really, for bodywork you want one with low minimum amps 25-30A and the max amps doesnt really matter, but if you want to weld thicker stuff as well then you need to start looking at the max amps. i have a clarke 90 www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/pro-90-mig-welder/path/diy-mig-weldersits perfect for body work and will weld up to 3mm. it wont do the 4mm they claim any thing over 3mm i use the arc (stick) welder anyways. it has gone up by about £50 since i bought mine tho alot of people rave on about the clarke 135te www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/135te-turbo-mig-welder/path/diy-mig-weldersits still got low minumum amps but has a higher max amps and can handle anything you would ever need on a car also dont forget machine mart do vat free days ;D the one brand you want to avoid like the plague is SIP they suffer badly from wire feed problems

yeah good plan, get the floors/sills sorted first then work your way from back to front, the idea being the rear of the car is harder to sort out so if you get all the tricky stuff done first you dont lose motivation as stuff is getting easier as you move forward

Dont forget to brace the cabin area if your cutting the floor/sills out.

I Dont know the science behind it myself but when mine was being done the guy welded a bar from top front seatbelt mount down to front edge of the door step. same on other side. And welded bars across the car from door step back to door step back and door step front to doorstep front. you dont want it twisting or moving in any direction really, or you may never get your doors back on...

I did a course in college to freshen up for about £25 which helped no end, then practiced at home (and on Blue) before I let myself loose on anything else.
I bought a Sealey 220 Supermig (New) at a farm auction which does an excellent job, although its range is from 40 - 220 amps with a bit of practice bodywork is no problem. I also have a Clarke 130 mig for very thin body work again cheap if you shop around.
Getting the Gas is the only problem CO2 easy enough but recommended Argon is a pain.

I've little time to do my own stuff, let alone another one.
Get a welder and even if you only do a foot a night it will be sorted.
