Haha, well I'm pretty desperate to snatch up a Mini as my first car right about now, just gotta persuade my mother a little more and I should probably be manly enough to go get it myself!
Anyone got any ways of persuading my mam it's a good thing rather than just some rust bucket that's gonna fall apart on the drive? :L Because I know it's not, she's just being stubborn...

It will fall apart on the drive.. its what Minis do... On the plus side you could tell her that it wont go fast enough to speed/kill yourself in? That's always a good bargaining tactic..?

Well I've been doing my research and Footman James are apparently amazing with insurance. People aged 17, with modifications and such, 1275 engines for just over £1k. 998 engines like £700. I DEFINITELY KNOW WHAT I'M DOING.
My Dad seems to think a Mini's a great idea, my mother disagrees, but it seems like I'm on my way. =)

Im guessing that's on their classic policy yeah?
Dont forget to ask for agreed value, because book price for Minis is only about £300...
Annndddd...... One thing to take notice of about a classic policy:
Classic policies do not let you gain a no claims bonus. So if at some point they make your premium shoot up you will have a hard time finding other quotes that are sensible money elsewhere with other insurers because you wont have any no claims. I'm currently stuck with them at the moment.. lol.. Their quick on the phones though and they don't rape you when you tell them about all your mods. (which means they wont end up cancelling your insurance if they ever find out about them!)
then again their prices come down by about £50 a year for me so far, but If I phone and get quotes for any other company its usually about 4 times as much.
Same as if you ever get sick of Minis and want to get something else, you will have 0ncb so insuring that new car may be more expensive than you'd think.... Even if your 26 or older the price will still be sky high due to 0ncb.
Just a heads up because it surprised me last year when I checked it out.

Ah right I didn't realise thanks Coedy. I'm willing to not get ncb for temporary cheap insurance whilst I'm still a young'n.
Callum, you're too scared boyo, ain't got the balls to get your 1340 in there.

If you want cheap insurance then HIC is the place to go. Im 20 years old and only paying £430!! And that's with a stage 1!! HIC are just the brokers, highway being the actual insurer. I also checked that it does give you real no claims bonus even tho it's a classic policy.
