Hi all After some advice/ideas want to fit a 5 speed gearbox in my mini van which I use daily, on the motorways I feel it is sking for that extra gear. Wounered if a 5 speed Metro/austin 1300 box would fit?, engine is a 1300 single point fuel injection running on 12inch wheels, I find at aound the 70 speed limit the motor is asking for another gear which would make for a quiter drive? and inprove fuel ecconomy which is good any but every little helps. what do you think or does anybody have any other ideas please

If u want a 5 speed box then your looking at silly money. The metro never had a 5 speed box until they changed to the k series engine and that gearbox can't be fitted to an A series engine. Your best option would be to fit a taller final drive, the late Lou had a 2.7:1 ratio which are great on motorways.

I have the 2.7:1 on mine, a little slower acceleration but you do get the top end, mine cruises around 80MPH with no issues other than its a mini
