Hello All
Wondering if any of you can help! I have a bit of a paddling pool in the passenger foot well of my mini..
I have replaced the rubber around the door as it was flat and disintegrating which has helped a bit but it appears to be also coming down the door window and running into the door, then into the car. There is a gap between the actual window and the rubber bit at the bottom on the outside.
I have 2 questions
1, if water gets into the door should it be actually getting inside the mini?
2, how easy is it to replace the rubber bit at the bottom of the door window? and what is the bit I actually need? (any links to minispares would be much appreciated so I know what I'm looking for)
Or is it much more difficult than that? I am slowly learning...
Thanks
Bex

Even if the water is getting into the door there should be no way for it to get into the footwell from there past the doorseal Check underneath the bottom of the door, there should be at least 2 drain holes, if there are make sure they are not blocked. I had that problem with one of my doors on the MGB and it wasn't down to the drain holes being blocked, it was down to there not being any drain holes at all! Someone before me had replaced the bottom section of door frame but hadn't put the drain holes back in - result - a swimming pool inside the door every time it rained !!! I had my very own "Water Feature" Have you checked to see if water is getting into the footwell from the nearside wheel arch Bex? Favorite spot for rust is around the fresh air vent behind the dash. An old trick to stop the "Paddling Pool" effect is to remove the rubber bungs fitted in the footwell or to drill a couple of holes in the footwell to let the water drain out !!! It doesn't cure the leaks but works as a short term fix. If you do drill the holes in the floor remember to paint the edges - well you wouldn't want them to rust would you !!!!

Thanks Tim! will keep that in mind after checking jackdaw's suggestions first! Jackdaw, I will have a check under the door when it's stopped raining..! I ran a hose pipe on it over the weekend and it came in on the bottom door (which as it happens also doesn't shut completely too which may be something to do with it) .. it poured in there.. but you're right tho the back should be soaking because of that not the front.. but it appears not! It may also be coming in from the wheel arch.. think I'll have another go with the hose pipe there and see'f I can see any water falls! I'll keep you posted! Ta!

Also if you remove the door panel (just little plastic clips holding it on so careful you dont break them when getting it off) you can check that the holes are all covered.. when they came out of the factory they had strips of plastic over them which can rot away/crack. Just cover them with gaffa tape. (also helps stop it being so drafty in the winter on the motorway ;D )

Right.. I am still investigating my leak.. and have found somewhere else waters coming in.. via some screws under the bonnet (that lead to the passenger foot well!).. (and around the door.. although may have fixed that!).. my dad has suggested getting some spray on rubber to spray over the screws on the inside.. but I am reluctant.. so after doing some research I have seen such thing as bonnet seal..
If I can stop water running down my window and then into the engine bay there would be no water there to leak.. thing is I don't know where this bonnet seal would go to know whether it would work.. so my question is, has anyone got any bonnet seal on their mini, and if so do you have a picture?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure when they where introduced but a few minis I have worked on have had them along the scuttle lip and down the wings for a few inches. There's a company which go to the shows who will sell any length of seal you want, think their called phoenix

I've got mine from Phoenix. I put it all the way around my engine bay...i was getting fed up with puddles in my foot wells. Its not leaked for me yet and as a bonus its stopped my bonnet vibrating as much! Should be pics in my build diary but not sure what page...

hey this sounds like it might be a good plan! Thanks guys!
My bonnet is not completely straight though so not sure if it'll definitely be water tight.. there is a bit of a gap at the top..
Codey, silly question, but any chance of a pic of under your bonnet just so I can see the size of the seal to see'f it looks like it'll work! I've looked on the website but no minis to compare sizes to!
yay i may have a dry mini yet... then just got to sort everything else...

Thank you!
From your description it's exactly what I need.. but from your picture my gap may be too big! May just have to try it, as a paddling pool is one thing.. but it was an ice rink this morning.. and this is not going to be doing my poor mini any good!

This seal is probably the best you can get to cure the water ingress problem in the engine bay. minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=36751&title=It will also help if you parked the Mini facing downhill. That way water doesn't collect and overflow into the engine bay.

That way water doesn't collect and overflow into the engine bay. Water runs down my windscreen and to the leaky bit in the engine bay as there is a large gap at the top of my bonnet and the run for the water is very shallow so it overflows.. I've tried parking it in all directions.. although where I live is on the top of a hill and there is not much shelter from the wind so water seems to get everywhere!

That's where mine comes in! that's why I fitted the extra seal.. Any tips on how to fix it? I would think that some clear silicon sealant around the heater pipes and/or around the edges of the metal plate will work. The sealant should stay flexible and should stick to the rubber hose and the metal plate so keeping the water out.

There is also a rubber grommet that fits round the water pipe(s) where it goes through the bulkhead.

There is also a rubber grommet that fits round the water pipe(s) where it goes through the bulkhead. I see... I dont have a grommet there... My plan is to take off that plate (mine looks pretty screwed) get a new one, and then epoxy a flattened out inertube from a bike under the hole, cut a slit in it, slide in the hose, bolt it down and Im hoping the pressure from the bolts will make the rubber into a grommet! ;D
