Hey there, Dad just noticed a small article in his classic cars magazine which may affect some users.
I'll write out the article in full.
"Continuous insurance - make sure your classic's not caught out
FROM JANUARY 2011 all cars in the UK not declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) will need valid insurance. That even apples to restoration projects and parts cars, and uninsured vehicles can bring fines, penalty points, or even be seized and destroyed. The idea is to reduce the number of uninsured vehicles on the road - currently estimated at 1.5 million - by linking the DVLA's records with the Motor Insurance Database rather than relying on on-road detection. From January letters will be sent out to all owners of vehicles that do not show up on the insurance database. So make sure your classic complies, and don't forget to renew those SORNs on time - Big Brother really is watching us now."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I hope that helps to stop anyone here getting caught out!

I don't see what's new here, your car is either taxed or sorn'd and if its taxed it means its on the road which means you have to have insurance If your car is untaxed and not declared sorn then its a fine anyway

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and a good point it is as well JB. This same topic has been talked about a lot on another forum which caused a lot of bother. If your Mini (for example) was already off the road and untaxed before S.O.R.N. came into being, 1998 or 9 then your car will not be affected. Only cars that have been taxed and on the road since S.O.R.N. was introduced will be affected by this new legislation money making law. Mind you, you usually find that uninsured drivers don't have car tax or an MOT on their vehicles so the sooner they introduce a better system to catch the cheating Rsoles the better.
