Yeah! Was -8.5 this morning over-b'yere... Put a big cover over my battery too to keep it warm since my battery went this morning too. Next door had to jump-start her.

I don't, it seems to make it run better at the start, I just really don't get it. I don't understand anything about how anything works inside the car... haha.

LOL LOSER some one explain to sam why to use the cholk please he thinks he dont need itt When an engine is cold the fuel burns rubbishly, so produces less power. To make the car run right (not stall so easy, or cut out randomly) you use the choke. Pull out the choke about a inch or so for the first 10 minutes of your drive and it will pump a little extra petrol into the engine, meaning it will run better while the engine is cold and let it heat up better. After 10 minutes it should be warmed up enough (the needle of the temperature gauge should be near the normal marking) you can put the choke back in, if its still running rough though, pull it back out until the needle gets a little higher. Pointless keeping it on all the time though or all your doing is sooting up your spark plugs (meaning worse running off choke) and wasting fuel. -please note, that may not be the science behind it, but its damn near close enough-

Choke use very much depends on how "tuned" the Mini is too Sam. My car will not start Winter or Summer without first pulling the choke out but once running the choke can be pushed back in straight away. Its a "suck it and see" type of routine ;D ;D which will depend on individual Minis. so trial and error till you find out what works best for you really!

Yeah, I bought some 20w50, a gallon of the stuff for £7. Who knows if it's good, but I'm checking regularly and will change the oil in the next few months... Bought an engine steadier since she likes to rock about due to my patially aggressive driving, and a new boot cable since it decided to snap on me. =)
Can't wait to patch up Pini.

Gotta agree with the above Sam! Only takes an hour or so to get the engine warm, drain the old oil, change the filter and top up with new fresh stuff. Should be the very 1st thing you do even if its not going on the road! Wont do any harm and its an awful lot cheaper than a new engine!!!!!

Okay guys, thanks for all the recommendations, now I wonder why my granddad, a mechanic, hasn't been on to me about this already... Shall consult him about it tomorrow!
And have realised that I didn't actually have a puncture, just some p***k decided to let my tyres down when I was in work, letting the front one down so much the alloy was on the floor... :@ WHY?!
