How much should I be asking for him?.... I'm really struggling to afford him, the repairs mount up, i can't afford to fix them properly and the rust is bubbling up in more places than ever... Might already be time for a sensible car, and I'm only 20.

I just can't seem to afford anything these days and every time I get him fixed a new problem comes along. Being a student and living away from home I need a reliable car to get back and forth to places, but also need all the money I can get. It's never gonna work, and I love him soooo much I don't want to see him go, but every day I get a bit more strapped for cash, another problem comes along with the car and I'm in even more dispare trying to make him MOVE! lol

Sad times, but I suppose, your back and fore Cardiff to uni, and your a student, so a mini isn't really all that practical, No idea how much he's worth though :/

Rhys' dad guessed about £3000-£3500, but I really wouldn't know. A woman came up to me in Castle Coombe and offered to buy it off me, even though it wasn't for sale! She gave me her mobile number in case I ever changed my mind, and I keep thinking that maybe I should give her a ring and see :/

thanks, been talking to different people about it, tryint to work out what's best. need to get hold of dan and ask him preferably. its a tough decision, my first car, lovely mini, so in love with it, loads of road trips. if i got rid of him, id be gettin rid of the whole community thing - classic car runs, mini shows, meeting up with all of u guys at insanely early hours of the morning!

Dont do it, you will regret it forever-what is wrong with KP, maybe someone close from here could help out with the repairs ?

Stick with it Amy. Its always terrible when your Mini doesnt run or breaks down but just try to remember the good times and sunny days. Once KP is fixed and running correctly again it will put the smile back on your face

its not this certain repair that is needed thats got to me, its just the fact that it always seems to need repairing, and I have to put my car repairs above eating... which is never good.

In my experience Amy stick with him. This run of repairs that you seem to be having can't go on for ever, there'll come a point when it will ease off because everything that could go wrong has gone wrong! I mean if you did sell for lets say 2.5k, what would you get instead? What ever you decided on would probably be more expensive to insure and run fuel wise... also unless your going to be able you get something relatively new and low milage you be carrying out repair work on that too - at a bigger cost! I've had mine off and on road since i've had it (and the one before) and every car i've bought to "save money" has cost me more in the long run and i've landed up putting the minis back on the road every time! Mines starting to look a bit tatty now, rust bubbles etc but mechanically it's sound after arming my self with the haynes book, tools, flask of tea and a few days out in the cold potching Owning a Mini is daunting sometimes but the good surely outweighs the bad?! Good luck in what ever you decide x

I started Uni with a "normal" car and found the craving of a mini just kept coming back so in my 2nd year of uni i ended up selling my "normal" car and getting a mini, yes i regretted it at times, when I couldn't fit all my mates in the car or when it required pushing every morning or when it would breakdown in the most awkward places or when my mates eventually decided to give up on it and refused to go anywhere with me! but I still have it now and would not get rid of it, yes it can be expensive but i find the good times always outweighed the bad times. Ive finnished uni now and have two cars the mini for the summer (its now parked in a garage hibernating) and a "normal" car for everyday use. I like you in the end needed an everyday car that was reliable and i could trust to start everytime i go out to it in the morning. But I wouldnt sell KP as i think like me a few months down the line you may regret it especially once the mini craving kicks back in. if its possible put him off the road for a bit, if you have a garage somewhere you can pop him in sorn him off the road get your self a cheap little runaround and in the summer and come back to KP but if money is a problem give student loans an ear bashing :-) and get a few extra quid that way get a little runaround to tied you over!
sorry thats my piece lol

thanks, i have considered putting it in a garage and getting a cheapy car for the time being, but i havent got enough to buy another car at all unless i sell KP. Ive gone off the sell KP idea for now. I know i'll completely regret it, but when youre in as much money problems as me (i.e. cant afford to feed myself) then its an option i have to consider. my student loan has gone, my over draft is maxed out, i cant afford the petrol :/ i think i might even put him away in a garage and not have a car for the time being. wont have to pay insurance, wont have to renew my tax, wont have to pass any MOTs till i can afford him again. itll be cheaper getting the train back and forth to home or bristol to see dan, cos i dont go often, and i just walk everywhere in cardiff this is the new train of thought, although it changes every 5 minutes

sounds like the best idea on this whole thread!! if your in uni in cardiff its got really good tranport links and can pick rail cards up much cheaper than petrol and insurcane etc etc. at least you aint gonna get rid of him

sounds like a plan, this is what i will do and i know it can be tough through uni money is always short during uni times but stick at it and it will all be worth it in the end.
