Hello! Finally got my hazzards working.. garage fixed them as it failed its MOT.. the little box that makes them flash had actually fallen out! Now typically too late to take back to garage I find I have lost the ability to beep or flash people.. and that little button you press to see if the brakes are working no longer lights.. Any suggestions? Everytime I take my beloved swimming pool on wheels to the garage something else comes back broken.. going to get me a garage somewhere and sort it my self some how! Bex

The lack of the brake warning light could be that the spade connectors on top of the brake master cylinder in the engine bay have come off ? Your other problem with the horn and mainbeam flash could be down to a dodgey fuse connection in the fusebox ? A common problem with Mini lectrickery with all this damp weather around and easily solved with a quick twiddle with the fuses and a squirt of WD40. Good luck

Still a swimming poll then Becs ? Hope you get it sorted The more I try and fix it the more it leaks! ;D Should have left well alone in the first place! haha! Although the fact it's been bucketing it down constantly for ages now probably isn't helping! Have my faithful cup for bailing out.. got hit by a bit of a tidal wave yesterday tho as hadn't used it for a few days and was dark when I got in so didn't notice quite how much water was there! Going to try one last thing at the weekend and if that doesn't work I will be finally drilling a hole in the bottom!

One of the connectors on the thing that holds my brake fluid has been loose since I got it and old reconnected it a few weeks ago.. that little light had come on all the time until now? Am I looking at the wrong bit? Will check the fuse for the flashing and horn.. is it controlled by the same one..? (must get my haynes manual out!!) Poor little mini has not been liking this wet and cold weather.. been cutting out in random places too or taking a lot of attempts to start.. usually ok when it dry and not icy tho!

He's generally been ok.. but struggling a bit now.. if only I could win the lottery and get him completely refurbed!

The brake indicator switch should only light up when you press it. that shows that the lamp is OK. When it comes on and stays on without you touching it, its time to check the level of brake fluid in the reservoir and possibly top it up or look for leaks. If the light doesent work when you press the switch check the spade connectors are tight on the top of the brake fluid reservoir. If the connectors are a loose fit just squeeze the ends of them with a pliars and then they should be a tighter fit. Not sure about the horn and light flash being on the same fuse - I will have to get Mr Haynes out and check that as well but Mini fuse terminals dont like this sort of weather usually and you can get all sorts of odd electrickery happening. Worst case would be that the horn push/light flash stalks on the steering column have become faulty

The switch itself may not have turned faulty like Jackdaw suggests (although... It may have... ) Easy and cheap check up is: remove the steering wheel plastic cowling (2 screws) look down at the bottom of the high beam/horn stalk at the base of the steering wheel, you should see a few separate contacts with wires going to them. This is how the various switches work on the stalk. clean each set of connections with a damp cloth wrapped over a very thin screwdriver with some insulation tape over it (to stop anything shorting ) That may sort it out, dust seems to settle inside the cowling and falls onto the switch contacts, happens to my main beam quite often, I do this and its sorted!
