Once ive gotten the subframes ready to go in... and worked out what is happening with the engine because if Im getting a new engine to drop in I may as well do it while the new subframe is empty...
I said id update the first post and make a new post in the events section when I set a date... chill out...

Think it will end up as a donor one for my brothers engine rebuild... Ill be taking the megajolt and all that off it anyway lol. Will see what happens... Im on the look out for a 1.1 (1098cc), if I can find a sensibly priced one soon then thats what Ill do. If not Ill have to try and find and cure the oil leak this one has while it is out...

I fancy building an engine, get a better understanding of it that way, although, I'll prob just end up chucking a 1275 head on mine

Im considering doing that to mine If I decide to just de-leak mine... but then my worry is while the block is being pocketed ill think "may as well change the cam now" then "hmm, while I can get at the gearbox etc I may as well fit a centre oil pickup and taller final drive.." then "hm while the gearbox is off I may as well fit a center main strap" or whatever they are called... And as a result I will be broke and could have bought a 1.1 and changed the final drive for the same cost... lol

yeah I get you, yeah I'd definitely change to a 276 cam, although I'd say it'd be meatier than a 1.1?

Yeah, lawsons spec 998 (pocketed block, stage one kit, 1275 head, SW5 cam, clued up ignition system) would kill a 1.1, hell it would probably panic a lightly tuned 1275! I'm not bothered about top speed etc. I plan on tuning for economy. So I am after torque but at the same time I like smaller engines. So plan is 1.1, sling megajolt on it, center mainstrap if im feeling flush (for piece of mind really) and a higher final drive so she is happy on the motorway and hope that the torque will keep it happy in 4th at 30mph for around town. Not after anything blisteringly fast, just something I can sit at 70 with ;D

Yeah think he's got a juicy little engine *lawsons head gets bigger*
Im happy that my 998 would do a 1.1 nova, thinking now If I go clubby, means a red top is in the pipe line

if you go clubby pretty much anything will go there with a crazy enough subframe... But yeah, im being boring and just going for economy lol... given up trying to get a mini to go fast!

did some one say my name i think a 1275 headed 1098 would be interesting, my 998 lacks torque but will rev its tits off which is where its power comes from. with a 1098 it has torque but doesnt rev as well my 998 (65bhp) would easily out accelerate the cooper sport (about 60bhp when new) i had but i think the coopers tall FD would give it the edge on top end speed. but for me id have a fast road 998 over a tuned 1275 any day of the week

Next week I'll be rubbing down and painting up the subframes, and once the swansea show is out of the way on the 27th Ill sort it out then, hopefully the next weekend, will probably do the rear subby first (gives me extra time to try and find a engine.. )
