remove front of headlining drill a hole in roof , fit Ariel, feed wire down the pillar, refit headlining.

In order to fit it neatly and without slicing your headlining the best way is to remove the front screen then you can gain access to the area under the roof where you are going to drill the hole. (hence the question about the sunroof)
This will also allow you to connect the coax cable to the underside of the aerial and route the cable over to the screen pillar to get it down to the dash.
An easy job which I did a long time ago.....but I had already fitted a glass sunroof at the time !

Not an easy job to get right, changing the headlining.
Have you tried using shaving foam to clean it up

Getting the headlining out of the way without damaging it and then getting it neatly refitted as it was is your major problem here. The actual bit about drilling the hole, fitting the aerial and running the coax cable is all pretty straightforward. A good option is to go buy the roof aerial that you want then wait until you need to remove the front screen and seal for another reason before fitting the aerial at the same time The choice is yours
