Tweeters wont work without crossovers like Hunt said... Well... they will.. but not for long. Take a photo of your speaker layout at the moment.. So I can see what you mean. There are normally tweeters built into 6x9s so I don't see why you would want to fit another set seperately....

Some tweeters do have crossovers built in?

Yeah true, but still, pointless having tweeters on their own in my opinion because if the crossovers are any good it should only be symbols, snares, violins, and high notes coming through them. Because that is what they are designed to play so if the 6x9s have them already (like most do) and you add a second lot, all you will end up with (if the crossovers are any good) is an ear piercing top end and a bit of midbass from the 6x9s lol.

Yeah, he would be better off, with some tweeters up front, some mids under the seat, and maybe a sub in the boot, well theres all sorts of combos he could go for depending on his budget, although he could do a lawson, and chuck a pair of vibe 6x9's on the rear shelf, apparently they do the job well..

6x9s in the rear shelf are better than anything under the bench Soundwaves hit the rear screen and are projected forward to your ears. Technically you should have all the speakers in front of you if you want sound quality (except the sub, that can go where-ever as bass is omnidirectional to a degree). But for bang per buck using 6x9s on the shelf would give you a pretty good (and more importantly as you say, cheap!) system. ;D

I do think you cant have a car without a decent sub though, theres nothing better than flexing body parts
