The best option is to get pockets cut into the block. if ur having a rebore its the perfect time to do it. It what I did on my fast road 998. No need to touch the head.

All depends on the exact dimensions of the head, If its going in the 1380 or the 998, where you want your power to come in, how long you want the power for (a lot of power in a short rev range, or less power across a wider rev range), if you plan on doing other mods besides the head and cam, etc etc etc etc... As hunt said, another tin of worms. And then after that is sorted out you will have the problem of how are you going to time its ignition if its a crazy cam, megajolt, wrestle your dizzy to try and get it close, send your dizzy off to be modified for the job or get a dizzy more suited to the cam. So even more cans of worms will be opened.

Any decent engine builder will tell yoy to pick a cam first then build an engine to suit it.

Have you got the Haynes book "Tuning the A-Series Engine" written by David Vizard? Loads of good info and tips in there about which way to go. Worth a read just so you know what options there are before you start on the engineering!
