Hello All!
Looking for advice, as mentioned in another thread, had a friend look at my mini.
Mini wasn't starting properly and kept cutting out. Apparently there was a bit of a petrol leak by the carburetta and he reckoned my electronic ignitions broke.
He said there was no spark coming out of the plugs.. he checked the coil and that was ok,and changed my plugs and plug leads as they were deteriorating, but it still didn't start.
He said to fix it I'd need to go to a local place with my distributor and show them it so they would know which electronic ignition bit I needed...
I went to them and they said they couldn't get one and we should try online or they could rebuild my whole distributor for £40 + parts.
Now I still don't know much about the inner workings of cars and don't know what they mean by "rebuilding" but surely if they haven't got the electronic ignition bit it still won't work if it's broken?
Even so I have looked on minispares and they have an electronic ignition, but I have no idea if it's the right one.. along with all manner of distributors.. which I'd also have no clue what's the right one!
At the moment my mini has had the petrol leak fixed and is running on a spare distributor with points and is going lovely (but I need to give that distributor back!)
From the description above, do you reckon just getting a new electronic ignition will sort it? or should I get a whole distributor?
Bearing in mind the cost difference!
Arrrgh! I need to go on a mechanics course!!
Seems when one thing get's fixed another bit breaks!
