I have a couple of questions though that I was hoping you guys may be able to answer. First is that on the left hand side of the engine compartment (left as you look from the front) there is a unconnected plug which is light blue that I am not sure where/if it should go anywhere - Also on the right of the engine by the horn there is another plug that is not connected, any ideas? And lastly on the starter motor (I think thats what this is) a connection is missing, there is a purple and red lead hanging loose on the right of the engine (ignore the plug on the end I put that on to protect it), does this connect to it? Its back to basics then. Trace the purple/red lead back into the wiring loom to see if it is connected to some other coloured wire - could be that someone has modified the lectrickery by adding an odd piece of wiring. Look closely at the starter motor terminals to see if there is any signs at all of a broken wire or a terminal without ant wire connected to it where the purple/red lead might have broken off from. When you first found the purple/red lead what was the very end of the wire like? Was there any bare wire sticking out of the insulation (indicating that it might have been pulled out of a connector) or was the insulation right up to the end of the wire (indicating that it might have been snipped off) Its all a bit detective like work to see if there is any signs of where it may have been connected before I'm afraid. If all else fails, when you are ready to start the car, leave the purple/red wire disconnected and if/when the car engine runs, have a look to see what lectrickery item is not working. Good luck

Solved! The purple/red wire was attached to a spade connector that is still attached to bonnet release switch (you know so the alarm goes off if the bonnet it opened) I cannot test it as the car is still on the operating table and the key fob is dead but using jackdaws dective skills its elementary! Now all I need is that phonecall from Ainsley for the alternator and mini spares to finally deliever my gearbox oil leak kit and I will be able to put the engine back toether...
