i have tried a few times now i got a wiring kit from huddersfield spares and have no clue what to do with it. the instuctions tell you where things are supposed to go but not how to connect the wires themselves!

OK Alex ! Where to start? Can you tell me exactly what is in the wiring kit? Do you own a soldering iron & solder or a cable connector crimp tool? Think we will have to take this one slowly, one step at a time. Where are you? jc

OK the 'kit' you have is for just 1 pair of lamps, either spots or fogs. You will need another kit for the other pair of lamps As well as those kits you are going to need 2 illuminated lighting switches, again 1 switch for the spots and 1 switch for the fogs To wire the spots you need to identify the terminal of the headlamp that is powered only when you have the main beams of the car on. Connect a wire to this terminal and connect the other end to your spot lamp switch. Next connect another wire from the other side of the switch to the relay coils terminal (the relay can be fitted anywhere but inside the car is best.) Connect the other side of the relay coil terminal with one of the kit earth wires to the car bodywork (earth) Next you will need to identify a permanent or ignition controlled live at the fusebox and connect a wire through an in-line 15amp fuse from there to the Switch terminal of the relay. The other side of the switch terminal on the relay will have your 2 blue wires to connect to the spotlamps. If I have lost you yet, don't worry I will draw out a wiring diagram and post it at the end. The spotlamps when bolted onto the car should provide an earth to enable the circuit to be completed but on some lamps there is a separate black earth connection that has to be connected to the car bodywork. It is a legal requirement that when your spotlamps are ON there is an indicatior light in the car so the switch you need to get has to be illuminated. There is an alternative method of wiring spotlamps so that they only and always come on with main beam, but the above method is more practical. Are you with me so far? jc

Hi Alex, no problem at all ;D
OK now for the fog lamps...........
The same diagram applies but the main beam connection from the headlamp should now be the sidelight connection or even an ignition controlled supply from the fusebox
The rest of the fog lamp circuit is the same as for the spotlamps.
When done, your spotlamps (when switched ON) should come on when you select mainbeam, unless you switch them OFF on the dash. and your foglamps should work via the fog lamp switch on your dash with sidelights ON or ignition ON
Think that pretty much covers it
Any questions, ask!!!
Have fun

Good luck mate! If you just take 1 wire at a time you'll find its actually quite easy................but then I would say that, wouldn't I ;D One thing you might want to consider in the future is instead of using crimps, get yourself a good soldering iron! Crimped joints will corrode or get loose, especially in the engine bay, soldered ones will last as long as the mini!!!!! ;D ;D ;D jc
