I've just spent the day fitting my 1982 Mini HLE 998 with a Quickshift stick from minisport.com. I had an article from MiniWorld and a Haynes manual to guide me, but after taking a quick test drive I discovered that I couldn't select reverse gear.
Has anyone fitted one of these and knows what I need to do as all I'm doing at the moment is burning the clutch putting it into fourth.

You have the 'cheap' copy if the KAD quickshift. Unfortunatly you will never get reverse without modifing the actual nylon ball its self. If you want a true 'quickshift' get ya wallet and spend £80 with KAD

One of our members (Paul) had a non-KAD quickshift and the whole gearstick came out. One of Paul and Phil's favourite club moments as Phil had to come to his rescue.
Paul problem was answered by paying a KAD item, problem solved and never had any issues again.

tbh, you can't, as the whole thing needs redesigning.

bugger... this causes me a bit of a problem as ive just ripped apart the old gear stick with an angle grinder to get the spring from it. and i knocked some other bits from the transmission tunnel bit to get the new stick to fit.
looks like im going to have to buy a KAD one then!

Best thing to do first is ring MiniSport and get them to talk you though it, if you can't get it to work (for now) get your money back. It's their product and they should know how you fix the problem. Just to keep you on the road at least, but if you want something like that get it from the company that design it. Same with anything really, if you pay less you get less

I will admit, I have managed to get a Copy quickshift to work, but took me about 4 hours of fine tuning to get it work, and even then, I swtiched it back over cos it was notchy and hrible to use.
Should of saved your £30 towards the KAD items!

its fixed! i took apart the whole lot this morning, shortened the spring with an angle grinder, greased everything, tightened things up a bit and by lunchtime i managed to drive backwards into the workmate! thanks to everyone who discussed this with me, wasnt expecting such a good response. What i will say is that if you want a cheap, clunky, slightly loose feeling gearchange that probably wont work then get a quickshift from minisport.com.

KAD offer some money off their quickshifts if you send them a non KAD quickshift along with payment sometimes email them to check if they still do it though..
