i got a 998cc engine and i was wondering what is my optimum speed for best fuel efficiency?? because the last 3 days i've seen minis doing 60+ mph and i was wondering would that just use fuel really quickly or does it like it at that speed? because i drive 45-50 mph because i want to save as much fuel as possible. anyone have an idea?

Optimum speed for best fuel efficiency Stopped with the ignition switched off !!! Hahaha! ;D You gotta think of the throttle as a water tap. The more you open it up, the more 'water' you use! A Mini 1000 should be happy at 45-50 MPH all day long and equally happy at 50-60 MPH. You will obviously get a better MPG at the lower of the 2 speeds tho. If you think of engine revs then anything below 2000 rpm gives good fuel economy and very little 'strain' on the engine.

Down hills. I just tend to stay around 65 when on duals, and accelerate really progressively so you ain't ragging it. Then on normal roads stay like 0-10 over the speed limit because I'm a fearless "censored".

well in that case i'll keep it at 45-50 because when i do 55 or more i can really hear the engine go for it

My Mini 30 (998cc) had an RC40 exhaust, an alloy inlet manifold, K&N air filter and a upgraded carb needle. It could keep up with 1275 Coopers on acceleration and would happily sit at 65-70 all day long.

Mine sits happily at 60-70, although Ill drop to slower speeds if Im in a convoy, engine doesnt sound too bad at 70, the only thing that keeps me from sitting at 70 more is the fact the wind noise is louder than the exhaust!!! If I could quieten the wind/road noise down then I'd sit at 70

I'm afraid it's not quite as simple as that. autospeed.com/cms/A_110216/article.htmlIt's all very complicated.

well i'll try her out at 60 mph but if i can tell shes using more fuel then i'll know the best speed. i just wont rag her up to those speeds.
