Hello, here we have my mini up for sale. This is a beautiful looking mini. I bought the mini around six months ago with the hope of putting it on the road again. I have been over all of the body work and checked for any rust bubbles that may hide a hole. as you can see from the pictures i have filled them and sprayed them with rust proofing primer.

The passenger door needs replacing due to bad rust (i have the door ready to fit but its not same colour of car) . I have checked all the arches for holes and sprayed them with primer. I was shocked at how solid this mini is i expected to have rot everywhere but other than what repairs i have shown and a few tiny areas of bubbling paint there is nothing and the shell and under side is solid.

The floor inside has been checked and looks brand new, so i have stuck the carpets down. The seats are in a little bit of a state but still very useable and covers can be purchased from Cobra. My main problem is trying to start it. The engine turns over and fuel comes to the spark plugs and everything else is fine but there is just no spark. I have changed spark plugs, coil, Points, and dizzy cap. There really cant be much else wrong but i just dont have the understanding or the time.

starter solenoid has gone but have got a new one to replace it just dont have the tools to fit it many thanks

first thing i will be doing is checkin all the wiring has any one got any ideas wa it cud be

Needs a bit more investigation this one!
Has he changed the condenser in the dizzy?
Has he had the engine timing altered or set up?
Has he changed the ignition plug leads?
Has he fitted the leads in the correct order?

WHY ?

Also there is no such paint as "rust proof primer" so beware!!!!!!!!

Primer is a porous paint that does not protect against moisture so letting rust develop under the primer.

He could be a numpty like me and not gapped the new points after fitting them.

But yeah, as above, all primer will just absorb water so check out any primered areas carefully, especially if they've been like that for a while and have been left outside..

he sed that he has change the dizzy dno about the timing he sed that he has change the leads will have to check if he has put them in the wrong order. Will hopefilly be respraying the car any way so not to worried about the paint wrk at the moment wanna get her started first cheers mat

I meant check the primer areas carefully as in tap them a couple of times and take a magnet with you as you will need to sort out the primer as well (at least apply new after rubbing that current stuff off) before spraying.

For all you know he has decided to tart it up with a bit of newspaper and pva glue then primered over it.

Its not the paint work to worry about, its the state of the metal under it, and if its been primered for ages and left out side then chances are it may not be too great..

When you get there have a really good look at that fibre glass flip front.
The fit can be bad sometimes and the way its secured to the Mini as well.

have looked at it seems scure will probably be changing the hinges on the bonnet as they are sitting a bit crocked
