hi guys, been out in the mini today and ive noticed that the speedo has a mind of its own when above 30mph, does any one have an idea of what could be the problem? also my fuel gauge decided to play up earlier as well thanks guys and gals

Check your cable is attached properly behind your clocks.

okay thanks tim i was thinking that earlier but then i thought i better ask you guys as well in case the clock itself is the problem

More than likely to be the cable than the clock I would say. Bit of a coincidence about the fuel gauge at the same time tho If both enda of the speedo cable are tight then it may be the cable itself is worn. Much cheeper to change the cable first before thinking about changing the clock....unless you have a spare clock lying around that you could try

thanks jack will have a fiddle around with it later it might be a bad earth on the fuel gauge somewhere, as ive noticed it goes down we you brake

Now that sounds like the brake pedal mechanism is physically interfering with some of your dash wiring either behind or under the dash. A mate just had a similar problem - every time he pressed the brake, the engine cut out - He found that there was a wire shorting out against the brake pedal under the dash Hope that helps

now that could actually be the problem as i have got a good few wires under the dash, that are not connected to anything as i cant find where they go and theres no other wires there that i can connect to , so ill have a look when i fit the temp gauge tomorrow
