Hi, Does anyone here have any experience with Mini hill climbing or sprinting they would be willing to share? What do you need to know I'm on the BARC Wales committee and been brought up on the sport.

Hi, Where to start... I guess I need to know pretty much everything! Basic scenario, mid life crisis, unexpected arrival of much neglected Mini leads to long term restoration and hill climb/sprint aspirations. This will be a long term project with limited resources, so don't want to waste time or money taking the car in the wrong direction. I will need to make her road legal as I have no trailering capabilities, however I will not be using her on the road much - mostly trips to the garage, body shop... Scrapyard perhaps :-) I guess the first question then is what class to aim for. The blue book and looking at some supplemental regulations hasn't helped much. She was first registered in 1973, which seems to mean she isn't classic, so I guess I will be competing against modern machinery. She was originally a 1000 but now has a partly installed 1275 engine. The inside is stripped and fuel etc lines inside. I guess I won't be in the production class, and that modified production is where I will end up. I certainly don't want to end up in sports libra, I read somewhere that a beam axle suspension will put you there. So, is mod prod the right class, and are there actually engine classes. Seems to be that it is basically just up to 1400 as the lowest class. I don't want to end up with a very high maintenance engine, so was hoping to avoid the bored out 1380 route if possible. Have I missed anything in my thinking here or is mod prod up to 1400 where I am heading?
Was also planning on joining Swansea motor club, checking our the paddock at their hill climb and picking their brains too, does this sound sensible? Anything else I should be doing?
Never raced before, but did see a hill climb once, so was also thinking of going on one of the hill climb traing courses if the car is ever ready.
Thanks for reading, look forward to your thoughts, beware lots more questions to come!

What year blue book have you got ? I have PMd you a web forum who will be able to help far more than I can on the tech side. The standard production class is as it says, no mods not even air filter. If you go mod prod you will be up against some seriously quick cars with some championships using up to 1600cc class not 1400cc. Go to www.trident-sprint.com home of Welsh hillclimb and sprint championship.

Was looking at the 2011 blue book online. I guess it might be better to focus on a particular championship and orientate to their regs. To be honest I suspect my everyday car would be more competitive than the Mini in prod class. Also prod class just seems a bit dull. I have no pretentious about being competitive, don't mind being last but would rather it was due to my driving rather than the car :-) I quite fancy doing something quirky like an 850, or retro 1970s technology only, but I should probably concentrate on actually getting her running first. Do you race a mini yourself?

I don't care, still VERY jealous :-)
Starting to realise how much I am going to have to do on the Mini to even make it into mod road prod class, might need to go back to standard dash and maybe get the rear pocket bucket things welded back in... Oh, might even need to fit a rear seat! Now that doesn't really say racing car does it, not like a totally tricked out MG!
