well, me and my friend took the mini out for a drive, down to fabian way to get a bite to eat. got out of the car, realised there was a massive que in there so we didnt bother. went to start the car up, switched the lights on, everything went off. wasnt even turning over. so i phoned the AA and they said it was an immobiliser problem. dad told me to check the battery was all connected, it was, so i wiggled the wires about and like magic it all worked. but now i have no immobiliser or alarm on the car

That sounds like dirty (corroded) battery terminal clamp connections or battery earth lead connection in the boot D. Take both battery terminals off, (+ive one 1st!) clean both cable terminal and battery post with a wire brush or some fine emery paper till the metal surface is clean, then get some terminal post grease, (silicon grease or Vasaline will do), and smear some on the terminals then reconnect the clamps and make sure they are tight. Do the same thing with the other end of the -ive battery earth cable where it bolts onto the boot floor bodywork. As to why your alarm or immobiliser has stopped working - all I can suggest is to check the alarm unit fuse as it might have blown when the battery connection was lost/reconnected. As Daisy said, the later injection Mini's have more over-complicated lectrickery systems I've had this battery problem soooooo often on Mini's in the past. Its just one of those regular maintenance things that Mini's need doing, and is usually made worse by the damp and cold weather of the winter, so sorting this out properly now will save you loads of similar events in the dark and wet days to come!

OK......... The problem is still there D !!!!!!! Dont think its gone away. It will come back unless you sort those terminals out and next time it could happen somewhere much more embarrassing than McD's! The winter will make it worse and in the end you wont be able to restart it at all! Trust me! Its happened to me in the past!
