Hey hey, been a while! been busy!
but I was driving back from Bristol last night and half way through the journey, when i put my foot down to give it some revs it doesn't sound normal, sounds like a low rumble popping noise. and doesn't give as much power as normal.
anybody have any ideas?
much appreciated! ;D

Very difficult to diagnose your problem with what you are saying. Could be a number of causes. Check the plugs. Dirty fuel. Dodgy head gasket. Leaking inlet manifold. No oil in the carb. Loose Air filter housing. Dizzy problems. Advance pipe damaged / come off. Try the obvious first, then it's a process of elimination. Have you still got the symptoms today.?

Hey sorry for the late reply, yeh still have the problems and they have got worse, car has little power and struggles to turn over with even the choke out. still popping and stuff, changed the sparks and no difference and looked in the dizzy cap and it looks a bit worn down. Could this be a problem? does it sound like it could be running on 3 cylinders or something?
bloody thing!

Got to agree with daisy's list of possibles above and would add one thing ..... check the coil cos they can fail slowly and give that sort of problem. Are you running on points & condenser or an electronic ignition Obvious easy step is to try new dizzy cap, points and condenser (if fitted) & rotor arm, then a replacement coil. This is a bad time of year for Mini lectrickery so I would be looking in that area if it was me. jd

So took it to a garage, and they said they have done a compression test and says the head gasket has gone!
Trying to work it out though, cause its not overheating! it's not got water in the oil and the water hasnt got oil in it! and its no coughing smoke out of the back?
does this sound right to anybody else because they quoted £400 to £500 bloody quid!

A head Gasket can fail in more than one way giving different symptoms.
£400 or £500 quid is a joke tho. Get a new gasket and do the job yourself in a couple of hours. Straightforward and easy job.
