i quite like the look of them. and if they protect the car at the same time then why not?

i got one on my looks sweet helps alot with the sump due the the ride height and road conditions around here never found a problem with them easy to get on and off two added protection doesnt effect anything
only pain is you have to take it of or at least lwer them when changing the oil otherwise it leaks onto the sump
i like them tho and you can get light one if your just after the look

I used to use one on my old rally mini. It was an essential piece of kit on the rough forestry stages and carried many a battle scar. Not really essential on tarmac stages, but couldn't be asked to take it off except when changing the oil.
As for flying stones etc punching a hole in the casing I found that the only holes made in my gearboxes were caused by the internals busting a hole from the inside out. Scrapped a fair few boxes because of it.
With the condition of the roads, speed bumps etc nowadays, fitting a sumpguard would certainly help protect the sump on a seriously lowered road going Mini.
