Umm ok there were no fuses there that I could see, infact very few wires behind the clocks that didnt go the the dials themselves, so really I'm still lost without a haynes manual lol.

Nope, but I didnt look properly since it was raining and the half of me sticking out the car was getting soaked lol From what I could see a lot of the wiring has been moved (tidily though thank god) for the bulkhead box, so I'm not sure if the wiring will all be where it should be. If I get time before the weekend I'll have a proper look.

Made a start the other day and got down to making the speaker pods for the front footwells. I'm going against my better judgement and using all Fusion equipment, since its amys car and she wanted the green to match the car... Plans are as follows: Up front there will be a set of 5.25in components, with the mid ranges in pods under the dash rail and the tweeters ontop of the dash, tucked in either side of the top dash rail. The back shelf will comprise of a set of 6.5in coaxials in a fibreglass install, and most probably be run off the headunit. These plans are a definate, and I'm actually about half way done, but on top of this I want to build something in the boot aswell. I was thinking of an amp rack on the rear face of the firewall and an mdf boot floor. The reason I wanted to build an amp rack is when I opened up the components, the crossovers are like mini versions of the fusion amplifiers!! Soooo cool! So I just have to get an amp to match the little crossovers, then mount them all together in a nice enclosure. Will probably have to do loads of shielding to the speaker cables though, since the amp will be powering the front speakers from the back, so plenty of space to pick up distortion along the way Heres some pics of bits and progress so far: Heres the stuff thats going in, looks pretty and I know its not gonna be audiophile perfect, but it'll do the job nicely. Note the awesome crossovers!! They look just like this amp only smaller: Made a load of mdf rings, most of them for the front pods, then Araldited them together, I swear its stronger then fibreglass now lol Then rather than self tap into the pods themselves, I got a bracket to go on the back with a bolt glued to it sticking out the top. With a penny washer it fixes to the bottom dash nicely, there is a very small amount of movement, but nothing major and not worth drilling a hole in the car to solve. Here they are fitted and with the speaker resting in it, I've yet to make the other side or drill holes to screw the speaker into, but I got distracted lol Like I said, still a bit of work to do on them, but I got sidetracked making the rear shelf! The idea is to have a nice fibreglass install with two coaxials in it, painted the same colour as the car. So I knocked up yet more MDF rings... And made a fibreboard base shelf and screwed two of the rings to it, followed by the upper rings on the supports I made up. Actually that step was preceded by fiddling for ages in the car to make sure it wasnt going to foul the back seat or the window! The glue is currently setting on the skeleton, but I have to work all weekend so its unlikely to be touched now until monday

Tweeters, coaxials, crossovers. It's all double dutch to me Danny. Seriously though, some fine work there. Should have some sweet sounds coming out of that lot.

looking good i installed the same components in my mates 106 not to long ago initially running off the head unit then swapped them over to being powered by a amp 2 weeks ago and tbh its not made any noticeable difference to the quality or volume levels. either way keep up the good work its gonna look pretty good when finished

Rushed together the front install today with a borrowed headunit, took ages, mostly because the headunit I was trying to get to work was broken! Borrowed another one and got it in and running, sounds ok but its really trebbly, just like the ones in my car. Sigh... I dunno what I'm doing wrong, all the wires are in the right place, the pods are pretty well sealed and even packed with wadding, I've fiddled with every setting on the HU, and still they dont really give out much bass, they just end up distorting if you crank it all the way up. Less bass than my friends standard old corsa with just a crappy argos headunit. Anyway, maybe they'll sound better with an amp. Made some good progress on the rear shelf too, hopefully start painting it tomrorrow:

To get bass from normal speakers (without a sub) you need to give them as much room as you physically can to let the sound reverberate behind them. modern cars have more bass standard because they have the entire door cavity for the sound to bounce about in. My brothers door pods have pretty much the whole door (give or take), and ive accepted I cant get bass without sacrificing either lots of room in the foot wells or some room in the boot for a sub. (big feet means I chucked my sub in the back but made the box bigger to let it drop for even lower bass). Can't say that an amp will help you im afraid it will just make everything louder as they are if the amps set up right BUT I must say, The fusion crossovers look awesome! nice to see a new spin on things! Also your build quality is top notch! well done dude! looking forward to seeing the rear shelf build in paint! ;D (good to see its getting mounted down as well! but just in case (if you arnt going to anyway) drill a hole through the parcel shelf towards the rear of the pod build (the bottom MDF ring) so that its anchored down in all 4 corners. just incase it decides to flip up if theres ever a bump. (the fifth gear episode has put the fear of god into me with bolting stuff down )

Oh right ok, I thought the best way to get nice sound was to have a sealed enclosure with the correct volume, but I guess the whole door cavity thing makes sense. Yeah I'm going to nut and bolt the shelf in at the back aswell as the standard bolts for the rear seat back, dont want it vibrating too much. Yeah that 5th gear episode was pretty scary, I'll never look at a box of tissues in the same way haha

Oh right ok, I thought the best way to get nice sound was to have a sealed enclosure with the correct volume Thats the main problem with speakers (excluding subs) is that the recommended enclosure sizes don't take into account bass output, just the mid ranges, that's why their recommended sizes are so small.. its everyone's main gripes on places like Talkaudio. Good man, figured you would just saying just in case. also, could be worth you putting down some old carpet (cut to shape) under the pod enclosure before its bolted down do make doubley sure it doesn't vibrate at all in case the bottom section of the pod has distorted when it was damp with the resin on. When do you think it will be in paint? Looks really tidy because it doesn't look as if it would get in the way of the rear screen much, if at all! once again nice job dude! ;D
