He has 2 red pages worth

- Nearside front headlamp aim too high and too far to the left.
- Offside front headlamp aim too high and too far to the right.
- Offside front headlamp aim beam image kick up to the offside.
Easily fixed with a flathead screwdriver, he said once he knew how to do it he would do it free of charge as I couldnt fix this myself without a machine to give me a reading.

- Offside front side repeater incorrect colour.
The orange painted bulbs contacts had corroded so I put a normal unpainted bulb in and it looked fine to me but obviously it needed to be orange

- Nearside front front constant velocity joint gaiter split.
- Offside front front constant velocity joint gaiter split.
Sorry Ju but I'm going to have to keep those CV boots after it seems...

- Nearside front steering rack gaitor split.
Will have to order one from fleabay soon as!

- Nearside front front suspension has excessive play in a upper suspension ball joint.
He said something about packing it with grease to stop to play?

- Nearside front wheel stud missing.
Will have to order one from fleabay soon as and have the castle nut impacted off tomorrow

- Nearside rear (swinging arm) suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush.
- Offside rear (swinging arm) suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush.
Advice?

- Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content excessive.
- Exhaust emissions hydrocarbon content excessive.
- Exhaust engine idle speed too high.

Tom is a tidy bloke and the £65 I paid has made it much nicer to drive but he is a little more thirsty since the tune up I've noticed.

Me and dean checked the rear brakes over the weekend before last so maybe a bit more adjustment is needed


He also said it was running a bit rough, as if it was sucking it air. I've noticed that its really 'putt putt putty' when its idling and you can hear and feel it from the exhaust pipe too.

1) sounds like the ball joint need to be re-shimmed or replaced, ( depending on ware)

2) sounds like you radius arm bushes are worn, so will either need to be replaced and reamed out to correct size ( i believe dai has the correct reamer ) or replace the arms with refurbed items

3) its probably running to rich, altho i didn't know you could fail on a high idle speed

radius arm play can only be advised as there are lots of different sized pins and can never be spot on. also yes idle speed is a fail as you cannot get correct reading for idle if it is above 1000. and to get you through ticket just pack them joints full of grease and should be good. sounds like theres not too much play in the front b.j.

One of mine failed on rear radius arms before and I packed that full of grease, I wouldnt recomend it as it then drove sideways down the road as it pushed way out of line

Sounds a lot mate but 90% of that could be done in a few hours

phil have you tried auto parts in ponty ( by B&Q) they probably work out cheaper than ebay and can get most parts the same day if they havent already got it

Why dont you price up parts in BMF or GMF?
They stocked a couple of bits iv needed and not to expensive realy, plus you got it there not haveing to wait for delivery etcetc

Not sure what parts I need if I'm honest. I've got the CV boots and will order a wheel stud once I know what length I need.

oo bugger shame you didnt know about the radius arm thing. you could of had a pass then...it does state on the advisery sheet which comes up on the pc screen stating the vehicle mentioned what the brake efficiency should be, what lights should come on dash when starting etc it states that the radius arms can only be advised upon as you can never have no play in a radius arm which isnt brand new as the pins are all different. i queried this on my first mini and they re read and apologized and did partial retest and passed it.

Yes i know a few people who do MOT's and they say its hard to say if it is a pass or fail bcause there is so many things that isnt a yes or no its like thier choiceor opinion or something(if i remember right)

Well if I dab a bit of grease all over them then maybe he will just think ive had them looked at properly and pass it next time ;D

it might pass but do want the risk ? Believe me if that goes completly the handling will be awfull, would dread to think what would happen if it went completly at 70mph on the m4

Gutted for you mate, new swivel pin sets are cheap enough though, and my local garage charged me about 15 quid for the job. I'd rather get new ones than trying to re-shim them, since its a very nasty ordeal when they do fail. Wheel comes off and takes out the arch most times.

Just figured this one out, the guy I bought the headlamps off on ebay has sent me two passenger side ones I bought them back in january so theres no chance of an exchange

I'm not as worried about things as I was yesterday as dean helped me strip the front mechanicals down this evening ready for saturday when I've got all the bits I ordered. Looks like I'll be getting my ticket for under a £100 if things are in as decent condition as they seem to be.
