Had it been crunching for a while before this? If so it could be a worn Synchromesh?
If not ive no idea...
Maybe engine mounts have loosened up and is putting extra pressure on the selector bits?

Well, it's either a Clutch fault, worn Baulk Rings or Synchro Hub. Another fault could be,>>>> Gearchange linkage worn, loose or maladjusted. Make sure the clutch system is properly adjusted, IE, no air in the system, clutch arm throwout is set correctly just to eliminate the "easy" problems.

I had a similar problem with mine several years back and I was having problems selecting reverse and changing from 2nd up to 3rd gear. The problem only arouse after we took our Mini back to the rubbish insurance recommended repairers because the new panels they fitted (after an accident that wasn't our fault) started to rust. Anyway it's a long story and it was our word against theirs, but just stay clear of 'S J Fullers of Bridgend' and I wouldn't pass water on them if they were on fire. So yes, we ended up paying a pretty large amount to get the gearbox fixed. I think they had to replace the primary gear? Oh and we also ended up having the panels that they bodged on replaced by a more professional body shop too. Nice and at times it really does make me wonder why we bother paying for car insurance? It all works fine now though.

I'm stuck at home all weekend working on son's car mate, your welcome to pop in and I'll take a look if you want, if it's cylinder or linkage I might be able to help, if it's internal gearbox I wouldn't have a clue though

If the fluids leaked out, then chances are it's the clutch slave cylinder seals which are to blame? Pretty easy and cheap fix if that's the case here?

How far up or down is the clutch pedal before the clutch engages.? IE, is it halfway up, a third of the way up.??

when in 2nd gear change to 3rd it will not go in and then you have to slow right down for it to go back into 2nd and then it will work after that

Hmmm. Seems to be enough "clutch" there. Was the clutch system bled when you had the master cylinder topped up.?

Do you have any difficulty engaging reverse gear? I had the problem changing from 2nd to 3rd after building up lots of revs (for going up big hills etc, so it was a right pain to loose it all), plus I had a problem selecting reverse too.
