dw if im in a crash i'll swap them back over haha Bit risky, but you're taking a chance as they'll definitely use a K&N filter as an excuse not to pay out in the event of a claim. More so if it's your fault or your not claiming off another motorist.

it says you lose bhp if you have a small bore engine, mine is isnt it? Well 998cc isn't big bore and it'd be worth checking. I've got one fitted to my Mini, but I've got a 1275cc engine. To be honest many claim it's better to fit the K&N element type filter inside the standard air filter box and drill holes around the underneath of the filter box. There's a guide somewhere on-line showing where to drill the holes. You also get a fair bit more induction noise at full revs with a K&N cone filter, so motorway driving can get tiring. But I still prefer my cone filter and I'd never refit my standard filter box.

dw if im in a crash i'll swap them back over haha Well dodgy....... If your in some sort of tidy sized accident and the car isn't drive-able after the bump it will get taken to a holding depot where you wont be able to swap anything over... They wont think twice about voiding the insurance... I used to have a K+N Cone filter, loved the noise... ;D

Forget the cone filter and do as taffy said, genuine k&n filter in standard air box with extra holes drilled, better than any cone filter.
Drips inside the car? I went in mine for the first time in ages yesterday and I had 3 inch iceicles in there ;D

I can't find the guide again. but I did it on mine. you need 6 1" holes along the leading edge of the bottom of the airbox. (this is the quiet option) Or You can have 6 1" holes along the leading edge side of the airbox, and this is the loud version! ;D lol.

Ha ha, found the image (via a link on The Mini Forum): - Keith Calver of Mini Magazine used to show it on his website. But the related article doesn't seem to be there any more. I'm still keeping my K&N cone filter though because it looks and sounds great. ;D

I loved the Noise from my cone filter, so it was definitely the most entertaining.... But I like the looks of my air box because I want to make the engine bay look retro... Much of a muchness really! just go for what you think looks better!
