My wheels arrived in work today, they are 12x6 supalites deep dish. My father has cut away at the wings for the wheels to fit. I have bought wood and pickett arches and they are currently being sprayed. However, i fitted one wheel today and even though I dont have my arches to tell, we're pretty sure the arch won't cover the top of the wheel. I've seen a few pictures on the internet of cars running the same wheels and arches as me though? Has anyone got any suggestions on what I could do to get away with it as I don't fancy spending more money on some new arches.

Ok, I'll have to wait for them to return from their spray first.

You may just get away with it. A lot of it is down to the "discretion" of the MOT Tester You could always try asking up front before the actual MOT starts that way if it is an issue you can sort something out before hand.

I've seen far worse than that during shows and on the road. As above, some MOT stations will give you a pass and others won't. The secret is, not to give the "Old Bill" an excuse to pull you over in the first place, ie; Keep a low profile. Not like a mate of mine who got pulled over for "drifting" round a roundabout in my local town, got pulled, obviously, and duly had the bag and was done for drink driving. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Wheels sticking out is NOT looked at during an MOT, how ever the police will pick you up for it and it can be 3 points per wheel.
The rule used to be you should not be able to see any tread when viewed from above but it recently changed to not being able to see any tread or sidewall

you could always put negative camber arms on the front and that way it will tuck the top of the wheel in do no tread showing.

If you had a Reliant Robin that'll be only 6 points on your license.

Unless my lamps are deceiving me (very possible) those arches don't look right, as in the narrower section should be on the rear of the wing, not on the front section of the wing.

I will be keeping as low profile as I can when on the road. If i do get stopped they'll probably have to give me a warning or something if I say I'm not aware of the law. If I do get a warning, I'll probably buy some new arches as I can't afford to get any points on my licence.

I was talking to a traffic cop I know recently and be said they have been told to be much stricter and that ignorance is not an excuse. Just don't give them an excuse to pull u in the first place. ;-)

I wouldnt say you would "get pulled" for just the arches/tyres. but if you did "get pulled" for something else (like a blown sidelight : then they may add it to "the list" This is the setup I've been running with on my Mini for the past 20 years (5 1/2" x 12's with W&P arches)without being stopped by "Mr Plod" (although the car has been off the road for the past 4 of those years!!!

Well I'm going to risk it for now and whne I save up a bit and when its been on the road a few months, I'll buy a negative camber kit and see if that can improve it.

If the law has changed as Lawson says then 90% of Minis are in trouble so I wouldnt worry too much.
Didnt know it wasnt an MOT problem, As said though...If your tugged then they could end up making the list.
