Hi all, me again, back with annother mini project but this time its not going to be custom modified with one off interior and what not, this time its going to be my night event rally car. Been wanting to get into rallying since I was young but it was always just a dream, until my friend started doing night events recently, then I started realising just how affordable it is, within reason, so started nagging my dad, lol. after a couple of months of looking at suitable cars, like skoda felicias, polos, golfs, and some very expensive minis, my dad found this in the adtrader 15mins up the road from where I live, its a 93 mini cooper, 1.3I with what looks like a stage1 it fitted to it, bought for the nice sum of £575, now its a good price but unfortunatley the front end is rusted to poop, and the engine didnt have a starter motor so havent been able to start the car yet, I have also started de rusting the front end. not alot of progress has been made yet but in the next week or so I will be getting to work on it more and more. will post more pix up soon.

Yes I know a few people wont be happy with the fact i'm turning a cooper into a rally car but oh well, lol. Nothing at all wrong with that Minillew! Isn't that what happened with some works Mini Coopers back in the 1960's ;D Great project, will be watching for regular updates, jc

I bought a new starter motor and my dad fitted it, then we tried starting it, it was ticking over but when we turned off the keys there was a nice loud clonking noise.
Also stripped the interior and found a swimmin pool in the back so cleanned it all ouot and wire brushed all the bits of rust, my dad has welded an inner sill to the passenger side and i'm about to go pick up a driver side inner sill and front panel now.
then going to malvern for aspin sunday to see what goodies I can find, hopefully get a few things, been saving for this day, lol.
hopefully i'll find a four lamp bonnet pod, a roof rack for shows , i need rubber mounting kits for everything, lol, and then anything else I see that I can afford after that.
I'll post some pix up later possibly.

Heres some pics, gave the front panel a few coats of paint bfore it gets welded on to add a bit more protection, all in all it had 5 coats of paint after the primer, still needs a coat of black and laquer when its on the car. and welded both the inner sills in place and started protecting them, before the fianl coat of black,

Good work Chris. I like the idea with the front panel. It's awkward spraying it well when It's fixed in place. How many times have you seen front panels rusting from inside out. Your method should cure that problem.

i have been hard at work derusting the front of the car, not to much has been done though as my other cars have been breaking!!!! anyway here is a couple of pics of the progress so far, front bar has been cut off for abit of better access, so my dad is trying to get the engine up and running but if not its easier to pull the engine out without the bar in the way, a nice hole in the bonnet, and one in the scuttle!!!! and there was some bubbling at the bottom of the door so took it down to bare metal,

Well, i went upto british miniday with abit of spending in mind, ready for once the welding has been sorted. So after £300 heres the list of what i got,
a scuttle repair panel, minifins drilled + grooved disks KYB gas a just shoix braided brake lines full car polybush set brake pad retaing clips EBC green stuff pads,
also bought 2 tshirts, a pretty pink cup for the daughter and a jumper for the girlfriend.
Not bad i though for £300, considering you'd probably pay that for a decent set of shocks for any other car!!!
so the plan is now to turn the mini around remove the door and tackle the welding then onto fitting all these things!!
oh yes and also had a set of bucket seats (corbeau forza) last week 2nd hand but basically new with mk1 golf subframes for £67 off ebay.
So really all i need now is spots and a cage!!

Any recent pics? With all that rust up front, werent you atall tempted to fit an FG front end? Surely would have been easier and lighter? But maybe not so good if you hit a tree mid stage I suppose >_<

not sure if i can fit a F/G front for a night event car??? but its only the front panel and i got one of them ready to swap over.
No recent pics, havent really done too much more to it, did strip the dash the other day as there was a nice behind the dash. am going to start welding sometime this week/weekend so will take some pics then.

I have now got a rollcage on its way to me. Also bought a pair of cibie oscars off my friends rallycar for £30. So now i have all the pieces to the puzzle, now its a matter of putting it together!!!! also i pulled the subframes off the bucket seats this week (Mk1 Golf), they were really bad quality so there is no point selling them so am going to cut them up and use the runners for the drivers seat and and the passenger side one had a piece on the back that i can use as a spotlamp bar, with abit of modifying.
no pictures yet sorry, i've hit abit of a rut at the moment as we have misplaced the locking wheel nut key!!! so cant get the wheels off.......
