well guys got the mini back, drove it back from shrewsbury and what 100 % improvement she has plenty of low down power and on the motorway she was cruising at 80 mph,do you hear a but !, the miss that was there when i had the old engine is still there when i have the lights on,i have upgraded the alternator to a 75 watt, coil is next but the garage said it could be a pink/red and white wire which goes to the distributer which might be breaking down, has anybody got any ideas, anyway enough on the downer the car went well,it needs to go on a rolling road next just to sort out the idle as she is a bit high and also on the dual carriageway coming to a junction she wanted to cut out even though the idle was high, but anyway i am chuffed with it these are only minor probs

Great to hear that the conversion went ok. Did the distributor get changed when the engine was changed.? A session on the rolling road might be able to cure that miss and sort the cutting out problem for you. With an engine of that spec it will be well worth doing .

i would love to come on a run just let me know dates, engine conversion is good, really needs to go rolling road to set up the carbs, and at the moment yes def worth the cash, next thing to sort out is that very annoying electrical miss but it seems distributer related so i have to start saving the pennies again as i may go down the route of megajolt !

Yep. That GT of yours certainly looks great. Can't wait to see it in the flesh. Regarding the distributor, have you thought of trying an Aldon Ignitor. It replaces the points and improves starting, running etc. They are made for the 23 / 25 and 45 series lucas distributors.

its time i had a vote from you guys on , " do i take off my fogs " as the local mini guys down in pembs say that it spoils the car, what do you think ?initially i did like them, but 9/10 mini local owners dont like them.

Hi VB My vote would be for keeping them on! Had a 1275GT in the past with the same lighting setup + 100watt lamps in all 4!!!!! 2 up /2 down on a clubman looks really great!!! When I turned main beam on it was like the sun coming up!!!!! Never mind what anyone else says - If you like them - keep them on!

Hmmmm, That's a toughie. The set up You've got now tends to suit the GTs better. On saying that though it makes the front end look a tad heavy. Try it with only 2 spots and then see how it looks.

after the hassle over the weekend i am glad to say that after fitting a fresh new needle from mini sport today she is up and running, and what a difference a new needle makes, its gone from a lifeless 1340 to a "oh my god" performance so i am chuffed.i have to adjust the clutch for some reason pr-new needle it wasnt slipping but now it is,so i will adjust that tomorrow and hopefully the only thing that needs doing then are the arches - thats a april job.

smile yes, but also cant get over how a needle can change the performance of the car so very happy,i have got to go to liberty stadium tomorrow [ on a course] not sure if to give it a run or to try it locally first, just in case there is any teething problems.
