heres my next moan !where do i start,as you guys know i got an engine fitted by leaton mini center, got the car going nice, but the clutch as started slipping,so i rang them and they said that i had the same problem on my old engine,so i said "i thought you fitted a new clutch "they said yes we did but we used your fly wheel and casing, the moan that i have is that i thought [and i was sure i was told] that they transplanted the engine from one car to another replacing the clutch, surely they wouldnt go to the hassle of removing the flywheel and cover from my old engine to put on the new.also would this cause my clutch to slip and whoose resposability is it, [ god i hate my mini sometimes ]

if you have itemised invoice try getting in touch with c.a.b as they will be able to give you advice if mini centre at fault + won't cost you anything etc. 90% of the faulty clutches we had back for claims etc were down to not being fitted properly by the garages once the clutch company inspected etc if that helps at all.

the invoice i got was just the price and 1340 men engine fitted , it wasnt itemised,so i guess i havent got much to go on if i went to cab !i am going to try and adjust it but there isnt a lot to play with.

Hi VB. You'll have to refresh my memory here. Was the complete engine and gearbox changed by them. ?

yes it was,but they fitted my 5 speed box from my engine, and the only thing to come off my engine was the alternator [which i ask to keep as it was the 75 watt]and the dizzy as on the new engine it was points and mine was electronic, they described it as an engine with everything on it take my old one out and pop in the med with no messing around stripping bits off my old one [ bar the gearbox],

Hi Paul. There are only 2 things that could be causing your clutch to slip. 1.--- The clutch needs adjusting. 2.--- Very worn or contaminated clutch plate. One other thing that could be causing the slip is, Is it a Pre Verto or Verto type assembly.?? Verto types are not usually up to the extra grunt.

If It's got a short clutch arm It's a verto type. Long arm means You've got a Pre Verto.

ok, its got the long arm type That's a positive start. Have a go at adjusting the clutch first. If You've got a Haynes manual It'll tell you the proper way to do it. Good luck.

ok,the latest instalment, clutch seal has gone hence the clutch slipping, and if that wasnt enough the head gasket has gone,so its a trip back up to shrewsbury to take the mini engine back to leaton mini center [ mini done 600 miles since it was put in ]so i think its going to go in the mini mags after in the classified and on ebay as i think the car is jinxed.

Don't lose faith in it VB. Once you get the gremlins sorted it will be so much fun that all will be forgotten.
Doesn't feel that way when you are up to your neck in problems though!!!!!
Its a much too good looking car to sell on - think again!

50 - 50 i think that i am due some trouble free motoring, however, sue [ my wife ] feels the only way to get trouble free motoring is for it not to be on the drive and a healthy bank balance.
