decided that abit of house keeping was needed as i had 3 projects on one thread , so now the Vtec has its own heres all the posts moved from the old Thread After many months/years researching and saving up we've finally started our B16a2 vtec build. We are building our own frame and will be keeping the front as it is The mini a 1988 city which we re-shelled a couple of years back into a new BMH shell The civic 93 civic vti Our frame & jig started on theses, made a jig which uses the normal sub-frame mounting points. After a couple of hours we had the jig pritty much finished, just needs some legs welded onto it to obtain the correct height. once the jig was done we welded in a brace across the towers and then set about removing the tie rod brackets so that they can be re used. will try update with any progress as often as possible, will also be putting my pics here s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh21/lrjonez/vtec/hit a dead end with the frame build due to a lack of engine so it was removed also started to figure out how much has to be cut etc removed the loom from the civic, didn't realise how big it was started to cud it down and managed to cut thru one of the ecu cables and now i cant find the cut off end  spent a few hours on the loom and except for 2 or 3 wires its done, still needs to be re-bound tho

arrived in the post today some 4 pot calipers and 8.4 " vented disks ;D quickly stuck the calipers on a spare hub ( didnt bother with the disks)and theres clearance when using a standard 12"mini wheel and plenty of space with the 12x6 revolutions that i might fit just have to find some time and space to actuly do any thing on the build

we've got to the point know where we are relatively close to being able to fit the sub-frame + engine only thing now is we don't know weather to carry on with fitting it to the city as it would mean cutting up a relatively new BMH shell so the choices we have are 1) carry on and put it in the city 2) put it in the flame instead ( as part of its rebuild with respray) 3) sell the flame and buy a clubman which will make things easier to fit 4) fit it into the cooper - thats my least favorite option what would you all do? i got to admit im rather tempted by the clubman option but it would probably be an estate

mental clubby estate vote for me, either that or the flame, if you chucked it in the flame you could chuck your MJ into this one and have a rebuilt mini with a reliable engine

yeah its very solid, well it needs a tiny patch on one sill but thats my own fault for not painting a stone chip last year also the old front that was chopped off had no rust on it at all but at the time i thought a removable front would make life much easier and truth be told its only come off once in 18 months and that was only for some extra trimming to get a better fit. will have to give this allot more thought. Before any one says it, its NOT going in the van.

Get a clubman f/g front and you get even more room and get rid of a piece of crap existing moulding.

Or even better. get all the metal cubby panels you need and convert your flame? that way there one more clubby in the world and you wont have to go mental over poor fitting front ends ;D

after uploading the pics yesterday it spurred me on to dig out the frame and do a bit more so today i finished off the engine mounts let the frame take the weight of the engine for the first time ;D so tomorrow i can set about the bottom straps then except for some stiffener braces etc its done ;D ;D ;D will take some new pics tomorrow

managed to sort the bottom straps out today ;D their only tacked in at the moment as i need to do one last trial fit of the engine to make sure all my measurements are right, which I'm pretty sure they are if all is ok then every thing can get fully welded, then its making a rear engine mount/steady and its finished ;D ;D ;D so maybe next week its on to the hardest part of all getting it to fit in a mini without cutting the front end off any ways heres some pics
