We found an axle. Complete fluke a guy just happened to go into the garage where my brother works looking for parts for his morris minor, the day after my axle went, they got talking and he just happened to have a spare axle only thing was it was still on the car he was breaking for spares. But for 25 quid instead of the 80 which was the cheapest I could find online I was willing to get my hands dirty ;D ;D ;D So got up early today (it was still dark haven't been up and about so early in years ;D) and went to get the axle. The very sad looking moggy we took the axle off. And when we looked in the boot we had the shock of our lives. Turns out there was a mummified moggy in the moggy . Yes it is for real So we got home. Stripped my car to bits and fitted the rear axle. I took a pic of the crack in my axle it was pretty bad. No wonder it was loosing a lot of oil So it all got sprayed in black hammerite before it went on and looked well tidy. Took it for a test drive and my heart sank. There's a knocking on the back axle somewhere It was too dark to mess about anymore so it's a job for tomorrow now. Hopefully it's just the brakes need adjusting. If it's the worse case scenario and I need to swap the diff with the one off my original axle I'll scream!!!!

Great news on the axle. Not so great news on the head gasket though. The joys of classic car ownership ay.

Head gasket done....eventually The threads on the head studs were all worn how they were staying in there I don't know. So put new threads on them and they were as good as new ;D As usual though things not going to plan meant I wasted a lot more time than I should have had too to do the job As Dai said the joys of classic car ownership ;D ;D ;D

Good work on changing the head gasket. If the studs were that loose you've found out what caused the initial gasket failure. Should be the end of that problem.

Changed the tailshaft seal today. where the propshaft attaches to the gearbox. Not too bad a job. Must have had it easy considering some of the horror stories I was told about doing it.
