Good news ; Twin HS2's Bad news ; jb jnr (that's me typing) crunched a change into 3rd gear and has apparently destroyed the gear box. No drive from 1st, 2nd, 3rd or reverse. Absolutely gutted

Gotta find the time to do it really, as Dad has work and I have no clue what to do, plus the garage has to be built first. So don't really know when it will get done.
Carbs appear to be in pretty good condition though yes!

I am completely gutted tbh, but as Dad said it could've happened at anytime to anyone, I just must not have had it quite in gear.

Bad news JB. Sounds like a broken selector, but can't understand how you've got drive in fourth. One selector changes 1st and 2nd gear and the other selector does 3rd and 4th gears. Hmmm. Thinking hat on.

Yes Dad was a bit perplexed while we were sat there. We're thinking of getting a new box and moving to 3.44 diff now that our hand has been forced a bit...

Well Dads just picked up an engine which a friend from his works father had. Got an engine and the gearbox together.
The engine number is 12A2LK70. Which appears to make it a 1275 twin point injection from 1997-2000. 63bhp and 70lb ft as standard. So for now we're just gonna use the box, want to find out what final drive that is now, the engine might get used in a few years.

Think its 2.76:1 or something like that?
The MPI's were geared for motorways not acceleration.

as coedy said will be 2.7:1 a 998 will struggle with such a tall final drive, the city E had a 2.9:1 and that was painfully slow to accelerate.

We already had a 2.9, as it's the '89 Racing Green, not the '90 which had the 3.44.

Hmm my mistake, I think I read somewhere that it was the same as the city e's which had 2.95 as you mentioned? But it seems I was wrong.
